Soswaewon Garden
A classical scholar's garden shaped around a small stream — a masterwork of Korean garden design.
Built in the 1530s by a scholar who withdrew from court, Soswaewon is the finest surviving private garden of the Joseon period. Nothing is forced: a stream is let through the wall, pavilions are placed to catch it, and bamboo and old trees do the rest.
